From Schiphol Airport to the Amsterdam

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol known informally as Schiphol is the main international airport of the Netherlands. It is located 9 kilometres southwest of Amsterdam, in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.Schiphol Airport can easily be reached by car via the A4 and A9 motorways.

By train

The Schiphol Airport Train Station is right under the airport. From there, you can take a lift or escalator to Schiphol Plaza, the airport’s main foyer. It’s close to Arrivals, and a minute or two’s walk to Departures.Follow the signs to Departure Halls 1, 2 or 3.
Many cities in the Netherlands offer direct connections to Schiphol. You can travel to Schiphol from Amsterdam, Utrecht, Leiden, The Hague, Delft and Rotterdam 24/7, often without changing trains.Trains are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.Check out their website to find your train.

It’s easy to buy and top up the rechargeable public transport chip card at the NS ticket machines at all railway stations. These yellow machines are operated by the national train carrier Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), At Schiphol you will find them at Schiphol Plaza, near the red-white-checkered meeting point.

Schiphol is also a stop for the Thalys international high-speed train, connecting the airport directly to Antwerp, Brussels, Lille and Paris Gare du Nord.Check Thalys website to buy your tickets.

By bus

It’s easy to take a bus to Schiphol – the bus depot is right outside Schiphol Plaza, the airport’s main foyer. It’s a few steps walk to and from Arrivals and Departures.There are a lot of buses going to Amsterdam so check out 9292 website to find best bus for your route.
In the Netherlands you use a public transport card called the ‘OV-chipkaart’. You can use this OV-chipkaart on the train, bus, tram and metro services throughout the country. There are several different types of public transport cards available.
A single, disposable paper ticket is probably the best option if you only plan to use the train, bus, tram or metro once. However, the OV-chipkaart can save you money if you plan to use the train, bus, tram or metro more frequently and over a longer period of time.
At Schiphol, you can buy the single paper ticket at the blue-grey machines. These are located at the baggage reclaim area of Arrivals 3 and just outside Arrivals 3, at the escalators, up to Departures 3. In these ticket machines you can also buy your Amsterdam Travel Ticket.

By taxi

You can choose a regular taxi, a luxury Schiphol Business Taxi or a Schiphol Travel Taxi minibus.
The registered tax companies at Schiphol can take you practically anywhere within the Netherlands. Just follow the signs above and on the floor toward the terminal to reach the offical taxi stands in front of Schiphol Plaza. From there, you can catch a metered taxi, so you’ll never pay more than you have to.
The drivers accept credit cards, cannot refuse carriage, and will issue a printed receipt.
Attention: please avoid all unsolicited rides from taxi touts.
Schiphol Travel Taxi minibus
Schiphol Travel Taxis are ideal for groups of no more than 8 travellers. You can also save money by sharing the costs with other travellers. In that case, the taxi will stop on the way to collect and drop-off other people, which can take a little longer.
